Abstract

This collection houses expense vouchers, checks, and other materials documenting the Summer School of the South between 1908 and 1917.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Summer School of the South started in 1902 at the University of Tennessee and offered summer courses to teachers, students, and the general public during the summer quarter. These courses included such topics as domestic science, agriculture, manual training, basketry, physical culture, art, music, penmanship, playground supervision, and educational training from kindergarten to college level. It was popular enough to become an annual event at the University and included excursions to the mountains, nearby towns and cities, concerts, Shakespearean plays, and motion pictures.

Arrangement

This collection consists of twenty-two folders.
