Abstract
This collection houses a photograph showing the University of Tennessee's Board of Trustees Meeting on September 18, 1953.
Biographical/Historical Note
The initial meeting of the board of trustees was held on October 18, 1794, while the institution was still known as Blount College. The board appointed its first female member, Ann Baker Furrow, in 1971. 1973. Legislation requiring a voting student representative was introduced in 1973 (and reintroduced in 1974). A faculty representative shortly thereafter. A 2004 bill made possible two student and two faculty representatives, and allowed for a two-year term (one year as a nonvoting member, and the second year as a voting member).
