Among the items that Gordon Aronhime collected are correspondence, autographs and calling cards and music programs in American and German. A bound book of autographs is part of the collection. An envelope addressed to Mr. Robert Moulineux Hodgson in Cowley is the claimed collector of the autographs. The initials EH is on the title page. There are over 64 autographs and other items in the beautifully bound volume. Autographs include famous composers as well as such other personages as the Duke of Wellington, Sir Walter Scott. Some autographs are: Gaetano Donizetti, G. P. R. James, Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville, Arthur Wellesley, Julie Dorus-Gras and other sociƩtaires.

Abstract

This collection contains correspondence, musical handbills and programs in American and German, and a very quaint European Autograph Album belonging to the Hodgson Family containing famous European composers, politicians, and writers.

Biographical/Historical Note

Gordon Aronhime (1911-1983) was a historian, writer, and photographer who resided in Bristol, Virginia. The Library of Virginia holds his research papers into the early history of Southwest Virginia focused on the upper Holston-Clinch River area during the period 1770-1795.

Arrangement

Collection consists of seven folders divided into five series: Correspondence; Autographs and Calling Cards; Music Handbills and Programs; Score; and Autograph Album and Broadside.

Gift presented by Gordon Aronhime 1963-1966.
