Abstract
This collection houses memoranda, reports, minutes, membership information, resolutions, by-laws, and other materials documenting the activities of the University of Tennessee's Faculty Senate between 1947 and 1975.
Biographical/Historical Note
The University of Tennessee's Faculty Senate was formally organized in 1949 as the growing number of faculty made it nearly impossible to hold meetings of the general faculty. The group was reorganized in 1972 and is currently empowered to design curriculum to support the University's overall educational goals and to advise the President on matters affecting the University's faculty. It is also a charter member of the Tennessee University Faculty Senates, which is designed to increase communication between the Senates at the various campuses and enable UT faculty to lobby effectively at the state level.
