Abstract
This collection houses correspondence and legal notes documenting the lawsuit that Nancy Van de Vate brought against the University of Tennessee alleging discriminatory hiring practices.
Biographical/Historical Note
Nancy Van de Vate filed a lawsuit against the University of Tennessee and its Music Department after being denied a teaching position in that department. Chancellor Charles Weaver, Chancellor Archie Dykes, President Edward Boling, and Music Department Head Alfred Schmied were all directly involved in the proceedings.
