Dannie Arthur Carr Correspondence
This collection contains ninety-four letters written over the course of nine months from November 1968 to July 1969 by Dannie Arthur Carr to his high school girlfriend, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Fox Smith, about his daily life and activities while serving in the Vietnam War. He includes information about the weather, patrols, his platoon, and the hardship of being away from loved ones.

Abstract
This collection contains correspondence between Dannie Arthur Carr and his high school girlfriend, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Fox Smith, during his time deployed in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969.
Biographical/Historical Note
Dannie Arthur Carr was born on June 30, 1947 in Sevierville, Tennessee. He attended Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. He served in the Vietnam War in the United States Army as an infantryman. His tour began on November 5, 1968. Carr was killed on July 3, 1969 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam, just after his 22nd birthday. Carr’s death is listed as a hostile ground casualty by artillery fire. He never married and is buried in Zion Grove Cemetery in Sevier County, Tennessee.
Carr's high school girlfriend was Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Fox Smith (b. February 13, 1950). Her father, Amos Fox (1905-1986), owned Fox Motel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee located on Highway 73 (Roaring Fork Road). Her brother, Gary Reagan Fox (b. May 14, 1945), also died in the Vietnam War. He died in action on May 20, 1967 in Quang Tri, Vietnam.
