Biographical/Historical Note

William Emerson Brock III was born in Chattanooga on November 23, 1930. He was elected to a seat in the U.S. Congress in 1962. He defeated Albert Gore, Sr. for a seat in the U.S. Senate in 1970. Brock lost his Senate seat in 1976 to Jim Sasser. In 1994 Brock was unsuccessful in his campaign for U.S. Senate in the State of Maryland. Brock’s appointed positions include U.S. Trade Representative and U.S. Secretary of Labor under the Reagan Administration.
