This collection contains primarily materials from Ford's five terms as a United States Congressman and his 2006 Senate campaign. It includes files from his committee appointments, campaigns, speeches and events, and multiple news clippings and media pieces on Ford. It contains numerous audiovisual materials, including ads and news appearances. The collection also includes documents related to Memphis politics and community development.

Abstract
The papers of former United States Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. (born 1970). Ford served as Congressman from Tennessee's 9th District from 1997-2007 and ran an ultimately unsuccessful Senate race against Bob Corker in 2006. Although the collection contains some materials from Ford's father and congressional predecessor, Harold Ford, Sr. The bulk of materials are from Ford's own five terms and 2006 Senate campaign.
Biographical/Historical Note
Harold Ford, Jr. was born in Memphis in 1970. After obtaining a law degree from the University of Michigan, he became the Congressional Representative from Tennessee's Ninth District to the United State House of Representatives. Ford served five consecutive terms in this position, with committee appointments on Education and the Workforce and Government Reform and Oversight, and later appointments to the Financial Services Committee and Budget Committee. In 2006, Ford ran for United States Senator, but ultimately lost to Republican Bob Corker. Since 2007, Ford has served as a political news analyst on Fox News and MSNBC, and more recently has taught public policy at universities around the country.
