Allen R. Coggins' report is entitled Folklore Study of a Flash Flood Disaster at Clinchmore and Gennett Camp Campbell County, Tennessee, July 24 1965. He writes that The purpose of this study was to gather and analyze oral (folklore) narratives about strange, unusual, curious, or odd situations that occurred during a disastrous flash flood in Campbell County, Tennessee, on July 24, 1965.

Kelly Elaine McNabb's project is entitled Once an Isolated Community, Now a Cultural Resource for the Future: Cataloochee Valley. The report gives an anthropological history of this southwestern area of North Carolina and the photograph addition documents McNabb's own fieldwork in the area.

Abstract

This collection houses two student Anthropology projects from 1993 and 1999. The first project was conducted by Allen R. Coggins and constitutes a folklore study of a flash flood disaster in Campbell County, Tennessee. The second project, which consists of a typed report and a photo supplement by Kelly Elaine McNabb, documents the Cataloochee Valley in North Carolina.

Biographical/Historical Note

Allen R. Coggins and Kelly Elaine McNabb were students of Anthropology under Dr. Benita Howell at the University of Tennessee in 1993 and 1999 respectively.
