Abstract

In this memoir, entitled A Proud Marine: World War II Veteran Bunk Austin, William A. Bunk Austin recounts his service with the Marine 18th Defense Battalion during World War II. The narrative is richly illustrated with photographs from Austin's scrapbook and reproductions of such materials as service records, maps, and medals. The work also includes some photographs from Austin's childhood and visits to war memorials later in life.

William E. Bobbitt Memoir

Abstract

This memoir, written in 1996, is William Bobbitt's account of his time fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The manuscript traces his military career from his training with a National Guard Unit in 1941 to his discharge in 1945. During his service, Bobbitt was stationed on many Pacific islands and faced combat in the Philippines.

Abstract This collection consists primarily of two scrapbooks documenting William H. Hunt's service in the Army Corps of Engineers between 1942 and 1946. The larger scrapbook contains three professional portraits of Hunt in uniform, snapshots, magazine and newspaper clippings dating from 1945 and 1984, a telegraph that Hunt sent to his parents, a copy of a letter of commendation, and a propaganda leaflet that the Japanese dropped while he as stationed on Leyte.
