J. Wade Gilley Collection, 1999-2000
This collection houses materials documenting the administration of University of Tennessee President J. Wade Gilley, including information on Gilley’s background and newspaper articles about his administration. Other topics include Gilley’s resume, the search process by which he was selected, and Gilley’s response to a budget crisis that threatened to shut down the University and resulted in administrative cutbacks and the elimination of the Chancellor’s position at the Knoxville campus. The collection also houses materials showing the scandal that erupted when English professor Linda Bensel-Meyers accused the University of academic fraud in the education of NCAA athletes and claimed that the athletic department was running university policy.
